Important tips for travelers.

Going to a foreign land? These tips will help you settle fast.

Moving from one location to another is normal but major concerns people have are how to cope

with the language barrier (if any), how to adapt to the new environment, and how receptive the

community is. These are very important questions to consider and below are important tips to

take into consideration before making that trip.

1. Read up: For someone traveling or migrating to a new place, it is very important to have

a basic knowledge of the place you’re going to. Go online, use social media apps to ask

questions. Use search engines to look up images of the environment; this will help you

have a little but important knowledge of where you will be going.

2. Basic language knowledge: Since you do not have a hang of the language, use apps like

Duolingo, Memrise or Google translate to learn basic words and phrases in the language

spoken there. By doing this, you will be able to ask questions, buy a few things or even

get around in your first few days there.

3. Make friends online: Depending on where you’re heading to and purpose, a good trick

to help you get settled quickly is to look for people living there and X (Twitter and

Facebook) are good apps for this. They might be essential in helping you look for a place

to lay your head or the nearest restaurant to get food.

4. Keep an open mind: It is not always said but it is very important to be ready for

anything. You might not have a soft landing as some people do, so be prepared to either see

the worst or the best.

5. Communicate: The best way to know a city is to communicate with the locals. The store

owners, cab drivers, and restaurant workers are people that can be helpful in directing you to

the right spot if need be.

6. Use Google Map: This app is a lifesaver, and having knowledge of it will help you get

settled faster than usual. With this app, moving around and locating buildings or places

will not be much of a hassle.

7. Have money: It is impossible to travel without money so while making plans, ensure you

have enough money that will last you till you either get a job or finish the task you came

for.
